10 days Geo Morocco Tour fossils and minerals

Day 1: Marrakech – Sidi Rahal – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate.

After breakfast at your hotel, depart Marrakech for the Sidi Rahal mine, which is rich in quartz, chalcedonies, amethyst, and agate. In the afternoon, cross the high Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate and spend the evening at your hotel.

DAY 2: Ouarzazate-Agdez-Draa Valley-Beni Zolli-Alnif

After breakfast, depart from Ouarzazate for the Draa valley, stopping at the Beni Zoli Ordovician site, which has large portions of massive trilobites. Picnic on the site in the afternoon, then drive to Serradrar to view the Silurian site and collect black Orthoceras. Spend the evening in a small hotel in Alnif.

Day 3: Exploring the Alnif area

After breakfast, depart from Alnif to visit the Cambrian site known for its massive yellowish trilobites, followed by a picnic in the Oasis and a visit to the Ordovician site of Jbel Tiskaouine, which is rich in calymenes and flexycalymenes. Evening at the same hotel.

Day 4: Alnif-Atchana-Mharch

Departure to explore Isoumour’s famous trilobites after paradise. All Devonian trilobite species coexisted. Collect the rolling phacops. Picnic on the site and then head to the Atchana site, which is similarly Devonian but in a flat area rather than a mountain. In the evening, we will collect red ammonites at the Mharch Inn, a lovely oasis in the desert.

Day 5: Oasis Mharch – Merzouga.

After breakfast, depart for Mecessi to visit the Lalla Mimouna site and collect Devonian trilobites, followed by a visit to Jbel Mdawar to gather Devonian goniatites. Picnic there and then head to Merzouga Erg Chebbi Magic Sand Dunes. Evening in a small, beautiful hotel in Merzouga.

Day 6: Merzouga – Taous – Merzouga

Depart for Taouz and see the famed Kemkem site, which is rich in fish, crocodiles, and spinosaurus bones and teeth. Then collect echinoderms at the Boutariyt location. Picnic at Filon 12, an old mine famed for its vanadinite, quartz, and goethite deposits. Then, return to Merzouga’s accommodation after visiting Mifis’ ancient mine.

Day 7: Exploring the Merzouga area

After breakfast, head north to Merzouga. Collect black Devonian pyritized goniatites at the Azourz site. Then trilobites at the Tisket location. Visit an active barythe mine and picnic in the sacred oasis. In the afternoon, collect sand flowers formed of gypsum and sand, as well as bites of bone vertebrae. Return to Merzouga hotel in the evening.

Day 8: Merzouga, Todra gorges, Dades gorges, and Ouarzazate.

On this day, we drove back from Erfoud to Ouarzazate. Stop at Todgha Gorges, eat lunch in Dades Gorges, then see the Valley of Roses before spending the evening at the Ouarzazate Hotel.

DAY 9: Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast, drive back to Marrakech over the High Atlas and have lunch. Then, on a half-day guided tour, you will discover the many facets of Marrakech, including a stroll through the Medina’s maze of small alleyways among its famous Souks and a visit to Marrakech’s most spectacular palaces and monuments.

Day 10: Marrakech-Menara Airport

We will spend the morning at leisure in Marrakech, shopping or relaxing, before departing mid-afternoon for Menara airport. End of the journey
