Itinerary for a 7-Day Marrakech-Based Morocco Birdwatching Tour:
Day 1: Travel to El Jadida from Casablanca or Marrakech
The day before the trip begins, we pick you up from the airport or meet you at your hotel. Accommodations may be arranged the day before the birding trip begins; just get in touch with us. Driving to El Jadida in the northwest is the first stop on our bird-watching trip of Morocco. Here, we will see the Cattle Egret, Calandra Lark, White Stork, Crested Lark, Common Bulbul, and Spotless Starling, among other species. After supper in El Jadida, we’ll spend the night at a nearby hotel.
Day 2: Casablanca, Rabat, El Jadida, and the Atlantic coast
The goal of today’s birding excursion is to hunt the Atlantic coast for the elusive Small Buttonquail. Additionally, we ought to see the Sardinian Warbler, Zitting Cisticola, and the African Reed Warbler in the area. We depart for Casablanca and spend the night at a modest hotel in Rabat for supper.
Day 3: The Zaers – Sidi Bourhaba – Rabat – Rabat
In search of Double-spurred Francolins, we will go southeast of Rabat into the King’s hunting forest, the Zaers, today. If fortune favors us, we may also see Black Crowned Tchagra, Black-shouldered Kite, Woodpigeon, Greenfinch, Serin, Redstart, and Barbary Partridge. We’ll travel the Atlantic coast, stopping at Lac de Sidi Bourhaba, a freshwater lake, and lagoons. Here, Red-knobbed Coots, Marbled Ducks, and White-headed Ducks will be seen. After that, we go back to our hotel in Rabat for supper and overnight stay.
Day 4: Merdja Zerga – Rabat – Rabat
We go north today to Merdja Zerga, which translates as “Blue Lagoon.” We see Redshank and Greenshank, as well as lingering flamingos and ducks. One of the rare locations where one may locate the African Marsh Owl is in the wetlands. Along with other species like Balearic Shearwater, we will spend our time at the beach and in the Atlantic Ocean. Savor supper and the evening at a nearby hotel in Rabat.
Day 5: Middle Atlas Mountains – Zaida – Meknes – Cedar Forest near Azrou
We will continue traveling southeast to Midelt today as part of our 7-day North Morocco Birding Tour. While there, we will look for Lesser Kesterl in Azrou. We go to locations in the Middle Atlas where we may see Ruddy Shelduck and Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker. In order to witness Firecrest, Wood Lark, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Coal Tit, Barbary Apes, and Atlas Flycatcher, we journey to explore the Cedar woods. We will stay in a nearby hotel or riad in Zaida for supper and lodging.
Day 6: Zaida Plain birdwatching excursion
Thekla Lark, Seebohm’s Wheatear, Desert Wheatear, Red-rumped Wheatear, Spectacled Warbler, and Short-toed Lark are among the birds we may be fortunate enough to see today as we hunt Zeida Plain for Dupont’s Lark. We have supper at a small hotel or riad in Zaida where we spend the night.
