Day 1: Oukaimeden – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
We will pick you up from the local Marrakech airport or greet you at your hotel as you begin an incredible birding trip from Marrakech (accommodation the day before the birding tour is possible upon request – just contact us). We start our tour with a breathtaking drive up to the High Atlas Mountains, where you may take in the breathtaking scenery. Look for local species such the Moroccan Magpie, Moussier’s Redstart, Southern Grey Shrike, Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, and House Bunting throughout the pleasant journey. We may be able to detect the rare Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker and the gorgeous Blue Rock Thrush as we make our way across the steep slopes. As we arrive to the well-known Moroccan ski resort of Oukaimeden, be ready to be in awe of sightings of Atlas Horned Lark, Alpine Chough, Rock Sparrow, and the gorgeous Crimson-winged Finch. We’re going to have supper and stay the night at a nearby hotel.
Day 2: Travel to Ouarzazate and Boumalne Dades from the High Atlas Mountains
We say goodbye to the mountains and cross the magnificent Tizi-n’Tichka pass at 2260 meters as we continue our 4-day Atlas Birding Tour. Look for raptors like the Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli’s Eagle throughout the roughly 4-hour trip to Ouarzazate. We will have a tour of the Mansour Eddahbi barrage, where you may see interesting bird species such cormorants, black-winged stilts, marbled ducks, ruddy shelducks, and maghreb larks. We will then go to Boumalne Dades, the Valley of Roses, and Skoura, where we will have supper and spend the night at a nearby hotel.
Day 3: Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge – Tagdilt Track – Boumalne Dades
Prepare yourself for an exciting day of birdwatching in the Atlas Mountains with our Marrakech-based Atlas Mountains Birding Tour. We’ll take a car to one of Morocco’s best birdwatching locations, the well-known Tagdilt circuit. Amazing species including the Red-rumped Wheatear, Cream-colored Courser, Temminck’s Lark, Trumpeter Finch, Thekla Lark, Hoopoe Lark, Short-toed Lark, and the migrating Thick-billed Lark may all be seen here. We will also take a tour of the stunning Dades Gorges, where you may see Bonelli’s Eagle and Tristram’s Warbler nesting. We’ll go back to Ouarzazate as the day comes to an end for supper and lodging at a nearby hotel.
