Sahara is a beautiful area!

We are a couple that traveled to Morocco on the first of December in 2019, and while there, my wife fulfilled a lifelong dream of hers to visit the Erg Chebbi desert and spend the night at a tent there. As a result, once we boarded the plane and landed in Fes, we made the decision to search for a travel agency in the area. Making a decision amongst all of the available organizations was a little bit challenging. After looking at evaluations from a variety of organizations, we discovered that this travel agency had a large number of positive ratings, many of which were written by local Berbers. As a result, we made the decision to arrange the three-day journey from Fes to Merzouga desert, and it turned out to be fantastic. In addition, throughout our journey, we had Ali Baba (his nickname) serve as our driver and guide. The thing that struck us most about him was his incredible depth of knowledge on the Berber culture as well as Moroccan customs in general. I want to extend my gratitude to both you, Ali, and Morocco Expedition for arranging such a wonderful vacation.

Our lovely vacation to Morocco for three days!

We truly weren’t prepared for how much we were able to learn about Morocco in such a short amount of time; our trip was just three days long. Our journey to the desert of Merzouga began in Fes, where it lasted for three days. What we appreciated most about our driver Hassan was how he took the time to discuss a variety of topics along the trip, even while he was driving. When we arrived in the desert of Merzouga, they greeted us with a warm welcome and had prepared camels that were really comfortable. In addition to this, the camel rider was quite professional while taking shots of us. When we got at the camp, it was quite luxurious, much like a five-star hotel, with spotless rooms, a steaming shower, and a lot of other amenities. Traveling to the mines of Kohl and seeing the desert nomads was another highlight for us. It is highly recommended that you sample the Berber pizza since it is both flavorful and fiery. Hassan, and the rest of the Morocco Expedition crew, we are grateful for the wonderful experience. Strongly suggested as an option.

Wonderful people and breathtaking landscapes!

Our family is comprised of eight people, and the travel firm Morocco Expedition took care of all of our trip arrangements. The minibus has extremely nice seating and air conditioning. In addition to that, we had Addi serve as our tour driver for three days. In Merzouga, they made certain that everyone of us had a camel ride to the camp, which was located in the midst of the desert and was quite clean. In addition, Merzouga is home to a wide variety of fascinating attractions, such as Touareg nomads and traditional musical performances. If you are seeking for transportation from Fes to any other location, this company comes highly recommended. I would want to express my gratitude to Morocco Expedition for this three-day excursion.

Three-day trip across Morocco, from Fes to the desert oasis of Merzouga.

Fes:

Since most of our excursions begin in Fes, we offer our valued customers the option of seeing the city with a resident guide. Seeing all of its stunning sights will take a whole day. As a result, we decided to include an extra day in Morocco so that you may see the city of Meknes before heading to the desert oasis of Merzouga.

Here, our staff compiles a list of Fes’s top tourist spots, including:

Madrasa Bou Inania:

Morocco is home to several fascinating Madrasas, or historic schools and institutions; among these is Bou Inania, a landmark structure constructed between 1350 and 1357 during the reign of Sultan Bou Inan.

On the outside, its walls are made of mud, while the interior is finished with carved wood and Zellige.

As luck would have it, it’s also one of the few mosques that non-Muslims are allowed to visit and see.

It’s Fes El Bali, of course.

With almost 300 neighborhoods and 9,000 lanes, the Fez el-Bali medina is a maze of dead ends. The requirement that each neighborhood build a mosque, a Koranic school, an oven, a fountain, and a hammam has been lifted.

The historic Riads in this Medina are notable for their beautiful architecture, carved cedarwood, and traditional zellige from Morocco.

Bab Boujloud, often known as the Blue Gate, is the most popular entrance to the Medina of Fes el Bali. It’s a stunning entranceway, perfect for photography.

Also, if you’re hungry and up for sampling some delicious street food, the gate is your best bet.

For the Fes Tanneries:

Largest tanneries in Fes El Bali, where hundreds of visitors gather to view leather dyed with spices. Residents and employees there spend hours preparing leather for use in crafting stunning traditional footwear and apparel.

Many visitors to the region include mint leaves in their luggage since the air doesn’t exactly smell pleasant. It’s best to visit at the day’s end, when the leather wholes will be dry and vibrant.

“The Mellah”:

The Mellah, or Jewish Quarter, in Fes El Bali is a fascinating place to learn about the city’s rich Jewish history. The nearby Aben-Danan Synagogue, which has recently been renovated, is also well worth seeing.

The Jewish cemetery is on the outskirts of Mellah and is an excellent spot to relax and take in the stunning antique Moroccan buildings.

A. -Fes El Jedid:

Fes el Jedid, also known as the New City, was founded by the Merenid dynasty some time in the 13th century and was purpose-built to house the opulent mansions of its rulers. The massive historic palaces there have contributed to the city’s recent rise to prominence. The magnificent Royal Palace, for instance, is a major landmark (it is not open to the public).

La Nouvelle Ville is the place to go if you want to view the brand new, enormous buildings that have been constructed in Fes, as well as the city’s modern architecture.

Feel free to get in touch with us if you’d want additional details about Fes’s top tourist spots.

Ifrane:

Our three-day trip across Morocco, from Fes to the Merzouga desert, begins in Ifrane, sometimes known as “little Switzerland.” Also, it is often considered to be the best city in Africa and even the seventh best city in the world.

Things to do and see are plenty in this metropolis. A visit to Ifrane, often known as the Garden City, is a highlight of our three-day Morocco itinerary. It’s a nice establishment, decorated with a white lion statue.

Ifrane served as a large prisoner of war camp during World War II. To earn his freedom, a German slave had to take good care of a statue of a white lion. Although the name of the city means “caves” in Tamazight and Berber, many other accounts claim that it was carved by a French artisan.

Ziz valley :

Travelers on the three-day trip from Fes to the Merzouga desert will stop at the picturesque Ziz valley on their way to or from Ifrane. It’s one of the largest date-producing areas in the Draa Tafilalet area. Many locals are from Erfoud and Errachidia, and they possess agricultural property in the valley where palm palms are the primary crop.

Ziz valley, located near Aoufouss town, is a fantastic location for aerial photography and taking pictures of palm groves if you’re like landscape photography.

Erfoud:

The northeastern city of Erfoud is around 40 minutes away from the deserts of Merzouga and Erg Chebbi. Its fossils have made it renowned. Erg Chebbi and Rissani, along with the surrounding region, were formerly covered by a vast sea until they were transformed into deserts. This city has attracted a large number of fossil hunters who are eager to share their discoveries with the public. Furthermore, Erfoud is known as the capital of dates for good reason. The city has an annual celebration in honor of the changing calendar seasons, and it attracts visitors from all over the world.

Glamping and a camel ride in Merzouga:

A camel ride across the Merzouga desert and an overnight stay in a traditional Berber nomad camp are two of the highlights of our Fes desert trips. in addition to watching the sunset and sandboarding at the camp. The Erg Chebbi sand dunes near the town of Merzouga are Morocco’s highest.

During this three-day Morocco trip, you’ll travel by car from Fes to Merzouga. After a long trip, the first thing you’ll do is relax with a cup of our traditional tea. After that, take a camel ride over the Erg Chebbi. Your camel driver will stop along the route to ensure that you have the opportunity to take the greatest pictures possible on your beautiful, relaxing camel ride. Minutes before sundown, you’ll have the unique opportunity to bring the sandboard along on a trip across the dunes.

You’ll be blown away with your authentic camp, and the cuisine will be fantastic. Enjoy a night of Berber music beneath the stars after supper.

The next day, you’ll get the chance to explore Merzouga and the surrounding villages. As a first stop, you’ll check out the Hassi Labied Oasis, which is surrounded by vast green agricultural areas owned by Berber bedouins and has a tranquil setting ideal for appreciating a variety of trees (palm, apricot, etc.).

The National Automobile Museum of Morocco, owned by an Emirati Business manager, is the sole museum in the region, therefore you should definitely check it out. A wide variety of Chinese, Japanese, and British automobiles are parked within his garage and ready for usage.

Returning to Khamlia, home of the Gnaoua people, you’ll hear their traditional music after seeing the museum. You should pay a visit to some nomads next.

You will eventually return to the hotel, where you will spend the rest of your time, after having sampled the local Berber pizza.

The Souk of Rissani:

Our three-day Fes to Merzouga desert excursion begins on Day Three at Rissani, home of the largest Souk in the region. It is said that Rissani formerly served as a rest stop for caravans traveling from Mauritania to Marrakech and other places in Morocco. As a result, they delivered several precious items to the metropolis. Things like spices and donkeys come to mind.

Since we’re locals ourselves, we’ll make sure your tour guide stops by this souk. As a first step, you’ll pay a visit to a guy well-known for selling premium spices so that our valued customers may learn more about them. When that is over, you’ll go to a location known for its annual donkey festival. During market hours only (Thursdays, Tuesdays, and Sundays). A marketplace where donkeys are bought and sold for use as household and transportation animals. There is a marketplace close by where people may purchase and sell sheep in preparation for Eid and other holidays. Meat, seafood, and even Madonna herself are all on sale in a separate section (the pitta bread). The Ramadan date sales in Rissani are another reason the city is well-known.
